A crucial part of helping your body heal is detoxing—finding ways to remove unwanted toxins and parasites in order to get your organs functioning properly again. While there are many keys to effective detoxification, foot pads are an option that is often overlooked.
I’ll be honest with you: When Tim told me he wanted to strap detox pads to our feet for the night, I was a little skeptical. You open up the package and find a little padded envelop that gets placed somewhere on the bottom of your foot (the exact placement depends on which parts of your body you want to detox) and stuck down with an accompanying tape. You put on socks to prevent the pads from getting pushed off in the night, and you go to bed. There’s a slight tingling sensation, and when we did this three nights in a row I only woke up in the middle of the night once, the first night, where it felt like my foot was throbbing slightly. (I went back to sleep.) In the morning, you step gingerly over to the bathroom, take off your socks and remove the pads to discover what was once white and clean is now grimy, brown and smelly (!!!!!). You swing over into the shower immediately to wash your feet because, yeah, it’s pretty gross.
But aside from the shock value of seeing how much can come out of your feet (!!!), here are the benefits of using detox foot pads:
- The pads are able to tap into the 60 acupuncture points on the bottoms of your feet.
- They naturally pull out chemicals, toxins and metals from your body.
- In the process, they can free up your body to be cleaner and more functional, reducing stress and fatigue.
- They promote healthy circulation, which is so important for healing the body.
- They boost immunity, not only from removing toxins, but also from the antioxidant potential of the negative ions the transfer.
Some Final Thoughts on Detox Foot Pads
from Tim: While many people question the results, and there are a lot of scam products out there, I think one thing is certain, proper detox foot pads will stimulate reflexology points such that the main benefit might be in increasing the output of the kidneys (which helps to remove toxins). So even if you do not believe the pores on your feet are an exit point for toxins you may still see a benefit from the reflexology. We like using these along with something like HMD or other herbs. We do not recommend just trying any detox foot pads as the quality of the ingredients is important to take into account.
